Isle of Skye Ferry
During the course of the 20th century, the ferries situated at Ballachulish on Loch Leven; at Dornie on Loch Long; and at Kyle of Lochalsh for those bound for the Isle of Skye, were all replaced by bridges. The ancient ferry at Dornie was replaced by a toll-bridge in 1940. Ballachulish ferry was to follow in 1975.
The Kyle of Lochalsh ferry was made redundant when the Skye Bridge opened in 1995.
But, despite all this 'progress', one can still sail "over the sea to Skye" on the ferry from Glenelg!
The service operates seasonally from Easter to October.

Dunvegan Castle
Dunvegan Castle has been the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years and it remains their home. Built on a Rock once surrounded entirely by salt water, it is unique in Scotland as the only house of such antiquity to have retained its family and its roof throughout the centuries, surviving the extremes of feast and famine, the intermittent periods of warring with neighbouring clans, and the immense changes of social, political and economic life through which the Western Highlands and Islands have passed.
